Conclusion In these unprecedented times, addressing the growing need for mental health and substance use disorder treatment and support services in all of New Jersey’s diverse communities must be a top priority. Long underfunded, the workforce and infrastructure of community-based providers require significant investment to fully cover the costs of providing services, as well as to expand programs for improved access to timely, culturally competent and linguistically appropriate care for all. New Jersey must seize the opportunities before it - abundant surplus funds, successful models of care, and increasing public demand for accessible behavioral health services – and build the community-based behavioral health system that New Jersey’s citizens deserve! 15 New Jerseyans Rely on Mental Health and Substance Use Treatment and Support Services to Thrive during the Pandemic and Beyond
