6 NJAMHAA's Spring Conference 2025 Morning Session DAY 1 | APRIL 8, 2025 COURSE DESCRIPTION: This cutting-edge course will explore the emerging role of GLP-1 agonists in the treatment of addiction, offering a deep dive into the science behind these novel medications and their potential to reshape addiction recovery strategies. Historically used for managing type 2 diabetes and obesity, GLP-1 agonists are now showing promise in modulating the brain’s reward pathways, making them a compelling tool in the fight against substance use disorders. Prepare to explore the intersection of metabolic science and addiction therapy—where new solutions are just a GLP-1 agonist away! Learning Objectives: At the end of this session, attendees will be able to: 1. Define the neurobiological mechanisms of addiction and how GLP-1 agonists impact the brain’s reward system. 2.
