John F. Kelly, PhD, ABPP Elizabeth R. Spallin Professor of Psychiatry in Addiction Medicine, Harvard Medical School and Founder and Director, Recovery Research Institute, Massachusetts General Hospital Dr. John F. Kelly is the Elizabeth R. Spallin Professor of Psychiatry in Addiction Medicine at Harvard Medical School - the first endowed professor in addiction medicine at Harvard. He is also the Founder and Director of the Recovery Research Institute at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), the Associate Director of the Center for Addiction Medicine (CAM) at MGH, and the Program Director of the Addiction Recovery Manage- ment Service (ARMS). Dr. Kelly is a former President of the American Psychological Association’s (APA’s) Society of Addiction Psychology, and is a Fellow of the APA and a Diplomate of the American Board of Professional Psychology. He has served as a consultant to U.S. federal agencies and non-federal institutions, as well as foreign governments and the United Nations. Dr. Kelly has published more than 200 peer-reviewed articles, reviews, chapters, and books in the field of addiction medicine, and was an author of the U.S. Surgeon General’s Report on Alcohol, Drugs, and Health. His clinical and research work has focused on addiction treatment and the recovery process, mechanisms of behavior change, and reducing stigma and discrimination among individuals suffering from addiction. Erika Kerber, Esq. President/Executive Director Community Health Law Project Erika Kerber is the President/Executive Director at the Community Health Law Project (CHLP), which provides legal and advocacy services to New Jersey residents with low incomes and liv- ing with disabilities. Erika has served CHLP for 18 years, first as Supervising Attorney of its Monmouth/Ocean office, and then as the Managing Attorney of that office. She then advanced to Director of Litigation and Associate Executive Director. Erika is also a Board member of the New Jersey Association of Mental Health and Ad- diction Agencies and New Jersey Mental Health Institute, and is an active member of the Professional Advisory Committee for the New Jersey Division of Mental Health and Addiction Services, as well as a member of the New Jersey Mental Health Coalition. She previously served on the Monmouth County Mental Health Board Professional Advisory Committee, which she chaired for several years. Prior to joining CHLP, Erika practiced family law at Northeast New Jersey Legal Services. Before then, she litigated child welfare cases while working for the City of New York and spent time in private practice. Erika received her law degree from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law and her Bachelor’s degree from the NYU Leonard N. Stern School of Business. Samantha Kunz, MA, LPC Division Director of Adult Services Legacy Treatment Services Samantha Kunz, MA, LPC, is the Division Director of Adult Services for Legacy Treatment Services, where she oversees the agency’s screening, adult residen- tial, and case management programs. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor in New Jersey and is a Certified Mental Health Screener. Samantha serves as the screen- ing coordinator for Burlington County. In her role, she has overseen the development of new programs and significant changes in the agency, including moving the screening center to a community- based model in 2020 and the clinical development of Salem Medical Center’s inpatient psychiatric unit. Her experience in the field spans the continuum of care, from inpatient services to outpatient ser- vices, and everything in between. Caitlyn Larson, BSN, RN, MBA Vice President of Clinical Performance CHESS Health As Vice President of Clinical Performance at CHESS Health, Caitlyn Larson drives the clinical impact of services and tech- nology on behalf of health plans, health- care providers, and state/local government partners. She works across the entire client base to share best practices on increasing treatment adherence, reducing relapse, and achieving cost-of-care savings. Cait also oversees CHESS Health’s Peer Engagement Team, which moderates the online peer communities in the Connections app, through which individuals with substance use disorder receive and give peer support, feel less isolated, share recovery tips, and build recovery confidence. She has been a senior leader at CHESS Health since January 2021. Prior to her role at CHESS, Cait served as the Vice President of Clinical Operations and Growth for Dy- namiCareHealth, where she developed multiple clinical protocols for substance use monitoring and recovery support. Her previous experience also includes serving as the Director of Nursing for the Home for Little Wanderers, as a Sub-Acute Case Manager at Wingate Healthcare, and the Program Director at Lahey Behavioral Services. Cait earned her BSN from the University of Rochester School of Nursing, having previously completed a BS at Manhattan College. She also earned an MBA from Northeastern University. In addition, Cait is a Standing Committee Member of the National Quality Forum for Behavioral Health and Substance Use. MEET THE PRESENTERS 53
