55 April 2024 Efforts Are Extended through Education of Patients, Families and the Community Summit Oaks educates patients’ families, as well as the broader community, about mental illnesses, SUD and warning signs of suicide risk. “Some of our patients have very difficult home lives and those who come to Summit Oaks after suicide attempts are very unstable,” Hannam said. To educatemore individuals about suicide risk, Summit Oaks established a partnership a few years agowith the National Action Alliance for Suicide Prevention (NAASP). “NAASP provides us with educational and marketing materials. We spread the word, attend community events, and educate our doctors and counselors,” Stewart said. “When patients are discharged, we make sure they and their families are aware of hotlines and other resources,” Hannam added. “Our goal is to keep people in the community and not requiring hospitalization. So, we build awareness of other levels of care and the role of the community in being part of this fix.” NewBridge Services is a proud sponsor of NJAMHAA’s 2025 Advocacy Campaign DIVERSE FACES: All Are Worthy of Full Investment!
