New Members C-Line and Discovery Add Innovative Programs, Including Technology, to Address SUDs C-Line Community Outreach Lamar Nelson’s career trajectory is indeed remarkable and inspiring. Starting as the first employee at C-Line, an agency founded by his mother Dr. Caroline Nelson in 1999, he then embarked on a career in law enforcement as a homicide detective. speaks to a vision that goes beyond traditional approaches, potentially incorporating insights fromhis law enforcement background to enhance the services and support offered by C-Line,” Dr. Nelson shared. By focusing on technology, Nelson ismodernizing C-Line to better serve the Jersey City community. The shift towards addressing co- occurringmental illnesses along with substance use disorders (SUDs) reflects his understanding of the interconnectedness of mental health and substance use. The emphasis on social determinants of health (SDoH), which include food, housing and employment, highlights the comprehensive approach C-Line is taking under Nelson’s leadership. Providing practical support including sandwiches every day, seeking to improve access to transportation and housing, and fostering partnerships with local businesses and organizations for employment opportunities showNelson’s keen awareness of the various factors that influence recovery andwell-being. Nelson’s initiatives, such as collaboratingwith a local barbershop for job training and offering drug screening services to local employers, are innovative ways to integrate clients into the community and reduce the stigma and challenges associatedwith SUDs andmental health issues. Overall, Nelson’s work at C-Line represents a forward-thinking and community-oriented approach to tackling some of themost pressing health issues facing society today. His leadership is evidently steering the organization towards a broader, more inclusive, and effective role in supporting individuals dealingwith SUDs andmental health challenges.
