11 March 2024 To further expand its partnering network and impact, LAC established the Coalition for Whole Health in 2009 “to ensure that federal health care reform legislation would fully and equitably include mental health and substance use disorders,” as described on LAC’s website. Samuels co-chairs this coalition, which consists of more than 150 national, state and local organizations. Steinberg commented on the value of working with NJAMHAA specifically. “It’s an absolute dream. I always learn so much and feel more equipped to do our work,” she said. “We spoke with NJAMHAA members about parity, which helped us develop comments about regulations that we sent to CMS. Real-world experiences that NJAMHAAmembers share are valuable,” Steinberg said. “When a New Jersey legislator reached out to us seeking residential care for a constituent, several NJAMHAA members responded immediately wanting to help.” “NJAMHAA is thrilled to have been working closely with Paul, Deborah and their team. Indeed, having more voices communicating the same messages to state and federal leaders is critical to secure the funding and legislation needed to ensure access to services,” said Debra L. Wentz, PhD, President and CEO of NJAMHAA. “We look forward to our ongoing collaboration with LAC and others involved in the MAPP and Coalition for Whole Health to ensure all healthcare needs are met for everyone in New Jersey and across the nation.”
