October 2021 6 Always in tune with the current environment and the challenges it introduces or exacerbates for behavioral healthcare providers, NJAMHAA has developed its Spring Conference, Nurturing Diverse Communities, to provide members with the knowledge and resources they need to most effectively help clients and support the staff who serve them. This event will be held virtually on April 5, 2022 and is sponsored by Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care, PerformCare, Ocean Partnership for Children, Integrity House, Oaks Integrated Care, Legacy Treatment Services and Mercadien. Although the pandemic and natural and manmade disasters have led to a reduction in stigma by normalizing mental health for tens of thousands more individuals than before these incidents, much more work needs to be done to eliminate misunderstanding and the resulting discrimination. John Kelly, PhD, ABPP, Elizabeth R. Spallin Professor of Psychiatry in Addiction Medicine at Harvard Medical School Recovery Research Institute, will focus on this critical issue during his keynote presentation, Dismantling Stigma: Addiction, Treatment, and Policy. Later in the day, attendees will gain a big-picture perspective on the behavioral healthcare system from Chuck Ingoglia, MSW, President and CEO, National Council for Mental Wellbeing, during a plenary session, National Behavioral Health Landscape: WhereWe Are andWhereWe Are Going. In between these insightful presentations and following the plenary will be a meaningful variety of live, interactive workshops.
