Barriers like daily clinic visits pose significant transportation challenges that lead to treatment dropout and the belief that methadone is a burdensome treatment option. Methadone doesn’t need to be a high-barrier treatment option. Remote observation gives opioid treatment providers (OTPs) the confidence to prescribe take-home methadone because they can better trust patients will take their medication as prescribed. New Jersey is leading the way with innovative approaches to methadone treatment. As the first state to fund a remote observation of take-home methadone pilot across eight OTPs, the presenters will share a description of the remote observation program, and outcomes and costs-saving metrics that will be measured. The target audience for this presentation are individuals who operate OTPs, policy makers, and funders - philanthropic foundations, payors, and government. The duration of the presentation will be 40-45 minutes, with 15-20 minutes allocated for discussion.
