List the key concepts regarding the co-occurrence of mental health disorders with intellectual/developmental disabilities. 2. Describe practical, everyday strategies to address the clinical needs of individuals with dual diagnoses. 3. Explain behavioral function and common FBA tools (A-B-C Chart, MAS, FAST). TARGET AUDIENCE: Behavioral Health Service Providers and Caregivers AUDIENCE TARGET LEVELS: Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced COURSE DESCRIPTION: This session will provide an overview of behavioral and clinical support for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. It will review applied behavior analysis principles and the premise that behavior serves a function. It will highlight the importance of conducting Functional Behavior Analysis/ Assessments (FBA) to determine behavioral function and will identify common data-collection tools, such as the A-B-C (Antecedent-Behavior-Consequence) Chart, Motivation Assessment Scale (MAS), and Functional Assessment Screening Tool (FAST). The session will also review key concepts related to the co-occurrence of mental health disorders with intellectual/developmental disabilities; raise awareness of the potentially disabling aspects of dual diagnoses; and consider practical, everyday strategies to support the clinical needs of individuals with dual diagnoses.
