Tori Tomlin, LAC Program Supervisor Acenda Integrated Health COURSE DESCRIPTION: Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and their long-term effects have been studied for nearly three decades, yet much remains to be explored, particularly in special populations. Adolescents who have experienced ACEs warrant focused attention due to the changing social landscape and the diverse backgrounds they represent. This presentation will examine how ACEs impact adolescent functioning and relationships, offering insight into how counselors can effectively support the evolving needs of this population. Evidence-based practices will be highlighted, along with practical resources that can be integrated into current counseling approaches for adolescents affected by ACEs. LEARNING OBJECTIVES: At the end of this session, attendees will be able to: 1. Describe how ACEs affect adolescents during their development and identify the areas of functioning that are most impacted. 2. Define counseling interventions for adolescent clients who have experienced ACEs that incorporate at least one evidence-based practice. 3. Explain how emotional dysregulation in adolescents who have experienced ACEs can influence their interpersonal relationships and risk-related outcomes in adulthood.
