Participants will analyze limitations within traditional treatment models, identify key knowledge gaps, and examine barriers that contribute to misdiagnosis, underdiagnosis, and reduced access to care. Through discussion and case examples, attendees will gain insight into culturally responsive and trauma-informed strategies that support more effective and equitable treatment. The content challenges common stereotypes and misconceptions in the eating disorder field while highlighting the critical role of cultural identity, lived experience, and structural barriers in the development and recovery process. Providers will leave better equipped to deliver inclusive, informed, and culturally attuned care. LEARNING OBJECTIVES: At the end of this session, attendees will be able to: 1. Describe the prevalence and unique presentations of eating disorders within marginalized communities. 2. Identify knowledge gaps and shortcomings in current eating disorder treatment offerings. 3. Explain key cultural considerations necessary for effectively treating individuals with eating disorders.
