34 Meeting Challenges Head On NJAMHAA’s FY2025 Spring Conference, Looking Beyond the Horizon in Behavioral Health , was a solely in-person event held April 8 and 9, 2025. The keynote presentation on the first day, Addiction, Neurobiology and the Opioid Epidemic , was delivered by Petros Levounis, MD, MA, Professor, Chair of the Department of Psychiatry, Associate Dean at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, and Immediate Past President of the American Psychiatric Association. He enlightened everyone with details and insights on the evolution of substance use treatment from a solely biopsychosocial focus to the tremendous potential to improve care with a comprehensive understanding of neurobiology. The Day 1 Plenary, 100 Days In - Behavioral Health Integration through Medicaid Managed Care , included representatives from managed care organizations, the Division of Medical Assistance and Health Services and a provider organization, who shared their perspectives on what is working well and what challenges remain in the Medicaid managed care system, and recommendations to maximize the potential for success. The second day of the Spring Conference began with Precision Psychiatry: Advancing Prevention and Treatment , a presentation by Jordan Smoller, MD, ScD, Professor of Psychiatry, Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School, who illustrated the potential of precision treatment and prevention, as well as highlights of research that he and his colleagues have conducted in support of this promising future. For the plenary session on the second day, Behavioral Health National Landscape - Today and on the Horizon , Chuck Ingoglia, MSW, President and CEO, National Council for Mental Wellbeing, shared the latest updates on national legislation and policy, and his perspective on the challenging situations that the National Council and NJAMHAA continue to focus on in their advocacy. Dr. Petros Levounis delivered the Day 1 keynote presentation. Dr. Jordan Smoller delivered the Day 2 keynote presentation. Chuck Ingoglia, MSW, President and CEO, National Council for Mental Wellbeing, shared the latest updates on national legislation and policy.
