He is a child, adolescent and adult psychiatrist inHouston, Texas KATHRYN COLHOUN JOINED Ocean Partnership for Children as a Care Manager in 2007 and took on her current role in November 2008. Katie has more than 20 years of experience workingwith youth and families in the behavioral health field in Ocean County and the nonprofit sector, as well as 17 years of experience as an advocate in New Jersey’s Children’s System of Care, especially for youthwith intellectual and developmental disabilities. “I have seen diverse populations in rural and suburban areas with all mental health diagnoses, and I provide all types of treatment. Withmy clinical experience and Black experience, I make sure that other voices are heard,” Dr. Higgins shared. “Being from the South, I add further diversity to the NJMHI Board and look forward to helping to achieve a positive impact on different cultures and communities.” Katie has served as amember of Ocean County’s Department of Human Services’ Children’s Interagency Coordinating Council since 2008, the Ocean County Human Services Advisory Council since 2010, and as an Executive Board Member of the Ocean County Homeless Prevention and Assistance Coalition since 2017. Katie holds aMaster’s degree in Social Work with an International Community Development concentration from Monmouth University and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology/Religion from Rutgers University. withmore than 25 years of mental healthcare experience. He is also the owner of Bay Pointe Behavioral Health Services and Kaleidoscope Clinical Research. In addition, he specializes in nutrition and health and he is the author and co-author of multiple books on attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, depression and grief, Black mental health and physician practice issues. “It was great to gain further insight into NJMHI and I look forward to working with the board to keep things moving forward, keep things fresh and expand initiatives,” Dr. Higgins said.
